Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP)
About AAHRPP Accreditation
Bellberry is proud to be the first organisation in Australia to achieve full accreditation from the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP), a US-based, internationally recognised body that promotes high-quality, ethically sound human research.
AAHRPP accreditation is awarded to organisations that demonstrate excellence in their Human Research Protection Programs (HRPPs), with rigorous standards for ethics, participant protections, and research oversight.
As part of the accreditation process, an AAHRPP site team visited Bellberry in March 2020 to conduct a comprehensive review of our operations, concluding that Bellberry’s model serves as an excellent benchmark for the ethical review of research involving human participants. A subsequent re-accreditation assessment was undertaken in December 2022, and a further five years of accreditation was granted in March 2023.
Accreditation reflects the collaborative efforts of Bellberry staff, our Human Research Ethics Committees, the researchers we support and underscores our role in strengthening research quality and integrity across Australia.

Registration
Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP)
Bellberry does not conduct research and is therefore not required to file a Federalwide Assurance (FWA). However, Human Research Ethics Committees (HRECs) that review non-exempt human research conducted or funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) must register with the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP). Bellberry is registered with OHRP to ensure compliance with these regulations. Additionally, Bellberry HRECs meet the FDA requirement of CFR Part 56 Sec. 107 IRB Membership.
